The peer review policy of Vantage: Journal of Thematic Analysis is rigorous and confidential. The journal follows a double blind peer review process. The editors manage the evaluation of submitted manuscripts by the external subject experts. The peer review process focuses on academic rigor, and ethical standards to make a decision on the acceptance or rejection of a manuscript. Only contributions submitted as Original Research Article, Review Articles and Brief Communications are peer reviewed. Articles submitted under other categories such as Editorials, Invited Articles, Special Articles, Perspectives, Book Reviews, and Reports are not peer reviewed. Decisions regarding the latter categories of submissions lie with the Editorial Board of Vantage: Journal of Thematic Analysis.
Authors are encouraged to provide details of at least two reviewers working in the same subject area. However, the reviewers are selected based on their expertise, availability and our previous experience with them. Editors also reach out to new reviewers based on their expertise and try to ensure diversity and inclusivity.
The peer review process of the journal is completely online and secure. Reviewers are contacted through the online system and the abstract of the article and login link is shared with them by the editors. The reports by the reviewers are also submitted through the online system.
The journal adopts a rigorous and double-blind peer-review process, involving independent experts, where the identity of the authors and reviewers is not disclosed The review process takes a period of approximately 4-8 weeks and hence manuscripts need to be submitted within the announced deadline. The submitted manuscripts are first read by the editors to decide whether the manuscripts align with the theme of the particular issue and adhere to the guidelines of the journal. The manuscripts that do not adhere to the guidelines and do not harmonize with the theme of the particular issue are not considered for the peer review process and are rejected promptly at the editorial level. The decision of the Editorial Board in this regard is final and is conveyed to the corresponding author at the earliest.
The manuscripts considered to have the potential for publication by the editors are sent to two reviewers for double blind review. The availability of the reviewers for the review process is enquired by sending them an invite with the abstract of the manuscript. Manuscripts are assigned to the reviewers after their consent with clear timelines mentioned. Reviewers are requested to adhere to the timelines.
In case of a conflict between the reviewer’s opinion, the manuscript is sent to third or more reviewers to reach a conclusion. Based on reviewers’ comments, editors take the following decisions:
The editors convey all the comments of the reviewers to the authors regardless of the editors personal opinions. Only certain words or phrases that might reveal the reviewer’s identity might be omitted. The final decision is taken by the editors based on the reviewers comments and authors revision and response. In case of major revisions suggested by reviewers, the revised manuscript is sent for a second round of review, preferably to the same reviewers, if editors find that the resubmitted manuscript has been seriously revised.
The reviewers are advised to upload their comments on the portal within the given timeline. The reviewer’s comments assist the editors in taking a decision regarding the submitted manuscript. The reviewer’s comments should also guide the authors in enhancing the quality of the manuscript and the research. The reviewers are advised to maintain a polite, mild and constructive tone in their comments. The main focus of the reviewer should be on the academic integrity and rigour of the manuscript, rather than giving personal or objectionable comments and those that might target the author's competence.
Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of the communications from the journal for the peer review services.
Manuscripts submitted to the journal are treated as confidential documents. Reviewers are strictly prohibited to upload any unpublished manuscript or any part of it into generative AI as it violates the confidentiality and proprietary rights of the authors. The journal also discourages the uploading of the review report by reviewer into generative AI for language modification as the report might contain confidential information related to the submitted manuscript.
The journal believes that the review process is the sole responsibility of the reviewer and he/she is accountable for the same. As per the guidelines of the journal, the authors can use generative AI or AI assisted technologies for language modification, image generation and overall manuscript preparation. However, full disclosures of such assistance are to be made by the author. Reviewers can consider such disclosures included in the manuscript before references.
At the outset, the number of days for review is clearly informed to the potential reviewer. In case, the reviewer expresses his/her inability to complete the review process within the stipulated time-period, the manuscript is sent to alternative reviewers. The reviewers who accept the time-frame are urged to respond within the given time so as to ensure a rapid and efficient peer review process.
The journal adopts a rigorous and double-blind peer-review process, involving independent experts, where the identity of the authors and reviewers is not disclosed. The authors are responsible for their anonymization and are prohibited from including the acknowledgements, funding, self-citations, or any such information that might help in establishing their identity in their manuscripts. The reviewers’ identity is not disclosed to the authors at any stage of the peer review process. Also, reviewers are asked not to reveal their identity to authors while manuscript is being processed.
