Cinema is an art of showcasing human life on screen. Similar to all other art forms, cinema can have both positive and negative effects on youth. Inspirational films like Border, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Mary Kom, Damini, Karma, Uri etc., are capable of changing the direction of a society. However, positive effects are often slow to set in, while the negative effects are wide spread like an epidemic. The present article discusses the negative effects of films and attempts to alert the society about these. The negative impact of films on your youth including their alienation from moral and cultural values is indeed a matter of concern. Due to increased commercialization, the standards of cinema has deteriorated, and the use of vulgar language and lifestyle has become more common. Many of the negative qualities associated with the villains in the past have now become a part of the hero’s character. Concepts like “live-in” have replaced the platonic love of the yore which might have an adverse effect on the society.
